Wings and teeth. No two symbols could’ve been better chosen to represent Minneapolis rap stalwarts Doomtree. The endlessly innovative crew/label has defied categorization from the start, leaving behind convention for what’s best described as aggressive transcendence. Through a tireless work ethic, take-noprisoners production, lyrics that never shy from truth, and an always shifting stylistic mix, this family has carved out an elevated corner unto itself. And like most families, as well as the imagery this one employs, Doomtree is as defined by its internal differences as its similarities: Seven artists whose diversity of tastes and consistency of character combine to make the team an unstoppable, honest, creatively vicious whole.

Joe Taylor: Where did it all begin? Well, I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My family moved to Toronto so I grew up there. School went by quickly (couldn't have come soon enough, though!) After high school I enrolled at Humber College where I studied Vocal Jazz and minored in Tim Horton's Coffee. Gotta have my Tim's! While at college I was in a few bands singing, playing bass and acoustic guitar. After I graduated, my days and nights were pretty full - I sold furniture at the Hudson Bay Company (otherwise known as The Bay) and did as much performing and recording as I could.

Twenty one years ago, Irish music met punk rock, and the world was forever changed! Irish Punk pioneers THE MAHONES formed at the end of the bar at a legendary Irish Pub in Kingston, (Ontario, Canada), over hundreds of shots of Jamesons Irish Whiskey and pints of Guinness Irish Stout to chase (naturally). It was the brilliant idea of Dublin-born Finny McConnell to put together a band that sounded like The Clash, The Pogues, The Who, Husker Du, The Dubliners and The Replacements, with a dash of Social Distortion, and a name that rhymed with The Ramones.

Cold Weather, the haunting album by electric troubadour Benny Marchant, is the sound of a hopeful heart that's bruised but still beating. Painting the stages of love and loss, Benny's emotional alternative folk-rock, sweetened with pedal steel, a horn section and his own delicate guitar, is his coming of age as a solo artist. Produced by Joe Chicarelli (Radiohead, White Stripes), using his crew of dynamite musicians, Cold Weather explores the slight but revealing gestures that shape our emotional life. Proud as any new father, Benny exclaims, "As an entirety, it's the best project I've ever been part of."
