Fearless visits the Chicago Auto Show!

The 2012 Chicago Auto Show ran from February 8th-17th at McCormick's Place. However, on the 6th and 7th I was given a press-pass from Fearless Radio to go check out everything before it was even open to the public. I wasn't sure on what to expect, but to say the least, I wasn't disappointed.

When you approached the Chicago Auto Show, you had two choices: left or right. If you chose to walk into the room on the right, you were greeted by Ford, Kia, and other recognizable brands. Also, this room contained the demonstrations of different vehicles. So, what happens if you were to go to the room on the left? Well, you'd be presented with the more luxurious cars like: BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, etc.

The first demonstration I rode was the newest version of the Jeep. They drove you over uneven ground, rocks, and even a 35 degree incline and decline (taking you 30 feet over the entire show).

Next, the Dodge Ram demonstration. Once in the truck, you notice a weight of 1200+ pounds in the bed of the truck. You then go through a similar course, showing you the durability and maneuverability of the vehicle.

The last was probably the most intense: The Challenger. Basically, you pull up to a closed gated, once it opens, the drivers shifts gears and floors the gas pedal. Oh yeah, and this is all in front of a brick wall, too. This exercise was used to show the quick start and stop time.

I was also able to sit in on a few presentations. Kia, by far, had the best one. You could tell a lot of work had gone into this production for the presentation. After the note-speaker had finished with the details of the new car, a cymbal crash could be heard on the other side of the wall. It was Chicago's own "Hairbangers Ball" playing to the unveiling of a new car.

Many other car companies took the professional route with their presentations (i.e. teleprompters, lighting, etc.) ...and some took a different route. I remember walking into the BMW section and hearing a voice over the PA, but I couldn't figure out who it was. Turns out, it was the guy right behind me. He was the key-note speaker for BMW giving his presentation while out in the crowd; no teleprompters, light show, or anything. It seemed to be a much more personable approach.

I took a lot of pictures while I was there, so make sure to check out the gallery!
