Well this is it. Not only are we saying goodbye to another year, but another decade that has certainly swept us off of our feet. It is amazing to think of everything that the decade has given us, from the popularity of the tongue-of-shoe-sticking-out-of-pants trend to the hilarious emergence of genres like crabcore (Attack Attack anyone?) in the scenester realm. Or in the indie rock world with the revival of what is shaping up to be bands that can attribute their sounds all the way back to the Beach Boys (Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Drink Up Buttercup, etc.) Or through the resurgance of bands like Four Year Strong, Fireworks, The Wonder Years, etc., who have brought forth what is shaping up to be a newer breed of collective that combines both hardcore and pop punk melodies. Whatever genre really suits you, you have to admit that its been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride not only of ups, but also downs. While these are prime examples of great things that have happened, this year brought some sad events to the music realm; the death of "The Rev" from Avenged Sevenfold, Lovedrug and Armor For Sleep breaking up within a three day span, and of course, that abomination known as Miley Cyrus. Sorry, got off track for asecond.
However you feel about it all, we have to continue on and see what else the music world is bound to give us. With all of our ticket stubs stashed away and our ipods still humming, we have to look and see who should be our next file transfer into them. After a bit of researching, listening, speaking with some of you, and trying to evaluate just where this is all going, I compiled a list of the TOP 25 bands to watch or continue to watch for 2010. Thought I was going 10 for '10 didn't you? Thats everyone elses game, and we don't play around here at Fearless Radio. So, without further delay, here is what my magic 8 ball told me. Keep in mind, this isn't a ranking system, as I believe everyone is entitled to their own taste, but you won't go wrong with any of these:
- Neon Indian
- The XX
- Jay Reatard
- Freelance Whales
- Grizzly Bear
- Frightened Rabbit
- The Antlers
- White Rabbits
- The Soft Pack
- Wiretree
- Cymbals Eat Guitars
- Foxy Shazam
- The Sound Of Arrows
- Volcano Choir
- Pelican
- The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart
- Dinosaur Pile Up
- Animal Collective
- Cage The Elephant
- Atlas Sound
- Headlights
- Micachu & The Shapes
- Pearl And The Beard
- MEN
- Cold Cave
This will be the last compilation list for awhile, as I will more than likely be going back to album and show reviews now that I have more time on my hands. Got any suggestions for me? You can contact me on here through comments, but if you are on twitter, follow me at @MarkWellMyWords for blog updates and music recommendations. Or, you can ask me a question on Formspring, where you can learn a little bit about me personally if you’d like: http://www.formspring.me/thesimpleson . I hope you all have a great 2010 and to see you around my home that I call the music scene.
