Since Bethany Joy Lenz's exit from Guiding Light she has completed a demo of original music. Trained by the director of The Brooklyn College of Opera, Lenz plays the guitar and piano, and writes her own music. Her first album, entitled Preincarnate, was released in October 2002 . Lenz continued to release new music, often through her character Haley James Scott. In 2005, after recording "When the Stars Go Blue" with costar Tyler Hilton, the duo joined The Wreckers (Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp), and Gavin DeGraw for a 25-city North American One Tree Hill Tour that started in Vancouver.
Simply put, Superbig stands out. In a city constantly in search of whatever musical movement is next, the polished, pulsating pop/rock sonic landscape of Superbig married with their mission statement is the result of desperate living, failed relationships and obvious bad life choices. It’s astonishing how fluid and potent their delivery and studio work remains. The band paints a radioready picture that keeps its heart on its sleeve and the hooks coming a mile a minute.

The Holiday Season Arrives Early as Stand Up! Records Presents
Keith Lowell Jensen’s Atheist Christmas CD/DVD
“Way funnier than Dawkins, way smarter than Jeff Foxworthy.”
— Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller
LOS ANGELES, CA (MONDAY NOVEMBER 24, 2014) - Stand Up! Records (http://www.standuprecords.com) and comedian Keith Lowell Jensen (http://keithlowelljensen.blogspot.com) are proud to present you yuletide joy with a Christmas special for atheists entitled aptly enough, Atheist Christmas.
Coming out on November 25th, Atheist Christmas will be available as both a single video special (http://amzn.to/1pzNl70) shot in Sacramento, CA. & physical package that features additional audio-only material recorded a few days later in San Francisco. The physical package from Stand Up! Records will be a combo DVD/CD package including both performances. It’s like two, two mints in one!
For his fourth, hour long stand up special, Keith Lowell Jensen jumps down the chimney into the War On Christmas, poking fun at both sides and reflecting on his own experiences as a nonbeliever during the holy days. You don’t need to believe that God doesn’t exist to enjoy this stuff. Jensen covers a wide range of material from having a daughter who has decided she is a tiger, sexual morality at church camp, depression, and how to deal hilariously with a telemarketer. Jensen returns to the holiday theme several times, often in surprising ways, which includes a touching story of agreeing to perform stand up comedy at the 'fun'eral of his friend, a professional Santa and closes out comparing his niece's same sex wedding to Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
Keith Lowell Jensen has become the go-to comedian at atheist conventions throughout the US and Canada (American Atheists National Conference, Skepticon, Reasonfest, FreeFLO) and a regular guest of atheist, and religious groups on college campuses. He also maintains a full calendar of club dates where he has worked with and earned the admiration of Roseanne Barr, Margaret Cho, Penn Gillette, Paul Provenza and more. Jensen has appeared on Doug Benson's Doug Loves Movies, the popular comedy podcast Keith and The Girl, and on The History Channel's How The States Got Their Shapes.
Jensen produced and starred in The Coexist Comedy Tour, featuring comedians of different (and no) religions making fun of themselves and each other, and the documentary of the same name that appeared on the STARZ network.
Stand Up! Records is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and run by Grammy-winning comedy producer Dan Schlissel. With a growing catalog and more than 130 releases, they have a 14 year history as a champion of the underdog. More than just a record label it is a comedy brand juggernaut; combining comedy, great art, discovering new talent, founding comedy festivals and also producing cool stuff.

Mysteryland is proud to announce collaborations with cutting-edge curators, artists, and performers from New York City and beyond, who will bring their diverse expertise in music, culture and art to Mysteryland’s second edition at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts over Memorial Day Weekend 2015. The first wave of curators includes Verboten, Webster Hall, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Jamie Jones’ Paradise, French Express, Q-Dance, BangOn! NYC, and many more, with the full music lineup to be released in the new year.
Mysteryland pays an homage to the rich New York music scene, with distinct areas hosted by its forward-thinking nightclubs, party series and record labels. Verboten is a Brooklyn-based nightclub and leader in the New York underground dance music scene, also bringing its popular weekly Zeitgeist series showcasing indie dance and nu-disco music to the festival. Declared by Prince as “the best stage in NYC,” Webster Hall has been, for over 128 years, a focal point of culture, celebration and freedom and will be inviting the most current names in dance music to Mysteryland.
A stage will also be hosted by Swedish techno titan, Adam Beyer, and his label, Drumcode, which cuts through the noise of the electronic music scene with each release -- reaffirming the label’s mission to deliver straightforward unpretentious dance music. One of techno’s biggest stars, Jamie Jones will bring his globally recognized Paradise party, featuring his signature groove as well as a spectacular roster of guests. Meanwhile, the celebrated French Express record label has been pumping out rhythmic house tunes since 2010.
Returning is Q-dance, creating exceptional experiences for a dedicated community devoted to their passion of hard electronic dance music, and making the first stop of their 2015 North America tour. The overwhelmingly popular bass stage The Boat also returns to Mysteryland 2015 with a brand new design, always focusing on all types of bass music with a very special closing slot. And of course, Mysteryland unveils a brand new mainstage, featuring a lineup of the world’s top headlining artists. The full line-up will be released in the new year.
Over at Holy Ground camping, Mysteryland introduces a new outdoor camping stage dubbed “Pineapple Paradise,” embracing the “anything goes” ethos -- you never know what to expect! Also new is The Breakfast Club: daily morning pre-parties in the Camping Circus held exclusively for Holy Ground campers, hosted by ‘Saved By The 90’s, a retro concept from the Bayside Tigers who will bring DJs, live music, and more to the grounds. Returning is the BangOn! NYC bus and of course, the Camping Circus.
Mysteryland continues its reputation as one of the world’s most groundbreaking festivals, aiming to create a community that allows fans to come together to discover new boundaries and means of self-expression through diverse settings celebrating culture and art. New additions for 2015 include ‘Owari No Nai’, a mysterious concept by the Amsterdam creative collective which brought the popular Sin Salida experience last year, featuring a Japanese land filled with Geisha girls, sake and more. Verboten also brings its Culture series, which includes Deep House Yoga classes, trivia nights, burlesque shows, and art exhibitions from popular and upcoming artists.
Mysteryland's 2015 arts program will be curated by Kevin Balktick, who will showcase the brightest imaginations in New York and beyond. Kevin Balktick is a Brooklyn-based creative director and event producer who has been organizing art and culture experiments for nearly ten years. Mysteryland is excited to engage with New York’s artistic communities and give them a place to play and share their work.

For the third year running, Chicago band Diana & the Dishes are putting on the Woman Power Holiday Show, a night of female-fronted bands rockin’ out to raise money for a nonprofit that supports women in Chicago. This year’s show is benefiting Global Girls, a dance, theatre and performance education organization for girls in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. Joining us on the bill are two awesome local bands fronted by singing actors: Everybody Says Yes (Meghan Murphy) and Birdie Wing (Lara Filip). Come for the music, come for the good cause, come for some woman power!
Somewhere between fact and fiction sits a place called Fort Lean. It doesn’t show on a subway map, and your cabbie won’t know how to get there, but on those adventurous nights when you’ve traded in your plans for a roll of the dice, that’s when you can find it.
Hailing from Tel Aviv, Dan Farber's debut Dim Mak EP Middle Eastern Jungle is out today on Dim Mak Records. Anchored in a foundation of trap and bass, Middle Eastern Jungle also draws a heavy influence from the traditions of the Middle East, creating a unique concoction of sound that is both hard-hitting and melodically intriguing. With this five track offering, Dan Farber takes his audience on a journey that not only gives the listener a taste of his home country, but also provides a glimpse of what this truly original artist has to offer.
To paraphrase steal unapologetically from Steinbeck: Slim Bone Head Volt is a poem, a stink, a grating noise, a quality of light, a tone, a habit, a nostalgia, a dream. Slim Bone Head Volt is the gathered and scattered, tin and iron and rust and splintered wood, chipped pavement and weedy lots and junk heaps of an actor’s brain and a musician’s hands. Its inhabitant are, as the man once said, “whores, pimps, gamblers and sons of bitches,” by which he meant Vincent D’Onofrio. Had the man looked through another peephole he might have said, "Saints and angels and martyrs and holymen," and he would have meant Dana Lyn.

PIXIES' JOEY SANTIAGO
TO MAKE FEATURE FILM ACTING DEBUT
LOS ANGELES, CA - Wednesday, December 3 -- Pixies guitarist JOEY SANTIAGO will make his feature film acting debut in the "The Bridge," an independent film written and directed by Bobby Field. The film is being made for fans of rock'n'roll and centers around the story of a small town music prodigy who must free himself from the shadows of his past or continue down a path of self-destruction. Santiago will be featured in a cast of iconic rock musicians that includes Joe Ellliott (Def Leppard) and Al Jourgensen (Ministry), taking on the role of an acoustic guitar-playing, shady motel owner.
"Being part of a cast that includes musicians from Ministry, Def Leppard, Twisted Sister and Thin Lizzy, I really feel like the odd-man out," laughed Santiago, whose "sonic plow [is] the key element in the Pixies' monstrous presence," according to MTV. "But I'm really excited about being involved."
Shooting is set to begin in mid-2015. "The Bridge" is being funded through the world's largest crowefunding platform IndieGoGo, and items that can be bid on include having Santiago cook you and five of your friends his famous pasta dinner. To find out more about and contribute to "The Bridge," go to www.buildthebridgecampaign.com

Celebrated tunesmith's highly anticipated record an elegant
collection “mostly about relationships” and “the big old world”
AUSTIN, Texas: James McMurtry spins stories with a poet’s pen (“Long Island Sound”) and a painter’s precision (“She Loves Me”). Proof: The acclaimed songwriter’s new Complicated Game. McMurtry’s first collection in six years spotlights a craftsman in absolutely peak form as he turns from political toward personal (“These Things I’ve Come to Know,” “You Got to Me”). “The lyrical theme is mostly about relationships,” McMurtry says. “It’s also a little about the big old world verses the poor little farmer or fisherman. I never make a conscious decision about what to write about.”
Complicated Game delivers McMurtry’s trademark story songs time and again (“Copper Canteen,” “ve’s Crossing”), but the record brings a new (and certainly no less energetic) sonic approach. First, recall blistering beats and gnashing guitars from his magnum opus Just Us Kids (2008). Now, unplug. “The label head wanted more acoustic,” McMurtry explains. “We built everything as we went so we ended up with more acoustic guitar as we went. We just played whatever sounded right for a given song, but we weren’t necessarily saying this is an acoustic record.”
Exhibit A: “How’m I Gonna Find You Now.” The record’s lead single boasts buoyant banjos and driving drums as endlessly energetic as anything electrified. Whiplash vocals further frenzy the beat. “I've got a cup of black coffee so I don't get lazy/I've got a rattle in the dashboard driving me crazy,” McMurtry effectively raps. “If I hit it with my fist, it’ll quit for a little while/Gonna have to stop to smoke in another mile/Headed into town gonna meet you at the mercantile/Take you to the Sonic get you grinning like a crocodile.”
Such vibrant vignettes consistently turn heads. They have for a quarter century now. Clearly, he’s only improving with time. “James McMurtry is one of my very few favorite songwriters on Earth and these days he's working at the top of his game,” says Americana all-star Jason ll. “He has that rare gift of being able to make a listener laugh out loud at one line and choke up at the next. I don’t think anybody writes better lyrics.” “James writes like he's lived a lifetime,” echoes iconic roots rocker John ll. Yes. Spin “South Dakota.” You’ll hear.
Further evidence: McMurtry’s Just Us Kids (2008) and Childish Things (2005). The former earned his highest Billboard 200 chart position in nearly two decades and notched Americana Music Award nominations. Meanwhile, Childish Things scored endless critical praise and spent six full weeks topping the Americana Music Radio chart in 2005 and 2006. In 2006, Childish Things won the Americana Music Association’s Album of the Year and “We Can’t Make It Here” was named the rapidly rising organization's Song of the Year.
Of course, Complicated Game doubles down on literate storytelling longtime enthusiasts expect. Recall high watermarks past: “Childish Things,” “Choctaw Bingo,” “Peter Pan,” “ve,” and “Out Here in the Middle” only begin the list. (Yes, Robert Earl Keen covered those last two, “ve” remaining a live staple.) Just Us Kids alone includes fan favorites “Hurricane Party,” “Ruby and Carlos” and “You’d a Thought.” High watermarks deliver equal measures depth and breadth and pierce hearts with sharp sociopolitical commentary (“Fireline Road”).
More history: McMurtry critically lauded first album Too Long in the Wasteland (1989) was produced by John ll and marked the beginning of a series of acclaimed projects for Columbia and Sugar Hill Records. In 1996, McMurtry received a Grammy nomination for Long Form Music Video for Where'd You Hide the Body. Additionally, It Had to Happen (1997) received the American Indie Award for Best Americana Album.
In 2004, McMurtry released the universally lauded Live in Aught-Three on Compadre Records. The following year, Childish Things notched arguably his most critical praise, spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Americana Music Radio Chart in 2005 and 2006. In September 2006, Childish Things and “We Can’t Make It Here” won the Americana Music Awards for Album and Song of the Year, respectively. McMurtry received more Americana Music Award nominations for 2008’s Just Us Kids. This album marked his highest Billboard 200 chart position in more than nearly two decades.
In 2009, Live in Europe was released, capturing the McMurtry band’s first Europe tour and extraordinary live set. Along with seasoned band members Ronnie Johnson, Daren Hess, and Tim Holt, the disc features special guests Ian McLagan (The Faces) and Jon Dee Graham (True Believers, Skunks). Also, for the first time ever, video of the James McMurtry Band’s live performance is available on the included DVD.
The poignant lyrics of his immense catalog still ring true today. In 2011, “We Can’t Make It Here” was cited among The Nation’s “Best Protest Songs Ever.” “‘We Can’t Make It Here,’” Bob Lefsetz wrote, “has stood the test of time because of its unmitigated truth.”
McMurtry tours year round and consistently throws down unparalleled powerhouse performances. The Washington Post notes: “Much attention is paid to James McMurtry’s lyrics and rightfully so: He creates a novel’s worth of emotion and experience in four minutes of blisteringly stark couplets. What gets overlooked, however, is that he’s an accomplished rock guitar player ... serious stuff, imparted by a singularly serious band.”
