Two guys meet at a bar and a band is born. It’s a story as old as beer on tap. Like all good stories, Immigrant Union’s started with a few drinks. And… maybe a few dozen more drinks. The story got a little more interesting when the duo started turning simple chords and melodies into completed songs. And then polished recordings of those songs. And empty bar rooms into epic parties. And music loving barflies into lifelong friends.
Saturated in beautiful harmonies and rousing chord progressions alike, the music of King Washington can be described as a throwback to when rock n' roll was a songwriter's game and at the same time praised for its modern sensibility and innovation. It has been compared to Grizzly Bear, REM, Bon Iver, The Talking Heads, Radiohead, Mott The Hoople, Kings of Leon, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Fleet Foxes, Muse, and The Beatles.
Though Curtis McMurtry is only 23 years of age, many of the characters in his songs seem to have given up on life decades ago. His debut solo album Respectable Enemy (due out August 2014, produced by Will Sexton and engineered by James Stevens) chronicles the narrations of unapologetically bitter individuals still haunted by the ghosts of lovers and friends they have long since driven away.

Stufy the Sidekick: As children, many people gave life to their stuffed companions, bestowing upon them names and personalities. As these children grew, their sincere attachment to their inanimate comrades often dwindled or disappeared completely...but little did the world know that the conglomeration of these imaginary personalities would be made manifest in the form of a wandering dream-being collectively imagined by everyone.

Headlining over 1,000 shows to date, TWIZTID: potent concoction of hardcore hip-hop, rock, horror cinema and theatrical styling is the formula brewed by – the diabolical duo of Jamie Madrox and Monoxide, who rose from the Detroit underground to seize the world by the throat with their sinister lyrics and infectious beats, and now reign supreme as a self-operated media giant and one of the world's most popular independent hip-hop acts, with twelve major albums/Eps released to date and more than one million albums sold worldwide, all of which have charted on Billboard's Top 100.
To a remarkable degree, Shawn Maxwell has the urge—a quality fundamental to those who create improvised music on a nightly basis. In this way, it is not enough to simply create, but the need to innovate guides each note. His art lies in addressing the ordinary modalities of life in an extraordinary way, placing notes in their most complimentary places with precision and enthusiasm. Of course, there’s the way he plays. Maxwell’s style was built around swelling harmonic runs while painting complex melodies across an expansive canvass. Each harmony he creates is purposeful in form as well as function.
Down With Webster: As long as any of us can remember, all we wanted to do was make music. While we came from different backgrounds, found inspiration from different influences, and developed different styles; we were united by our love of music. It’s the reason we saved all of our money to buy albums, memorized every word, learned each chord, bass line and beat. It’s the reason we spent all of our time together writing, playing and producing in a garage. It’s the reason we sleep in the studio and live on stage.

Heartbreak, shame, sorrow and guilt. In the case of Archie Powell, his new collection of songs prove that for him, no good crush gets requited. He and the Exports presented Back in Black in April, an explosive set that marries the melodic, hooky addiction of their previous albums with a new heavier, noisy backing. Since then the band has toured the nation, performed at SXSW and Riot Fest, and garnered pretty incredible critical acclaim. Next month, the Exports join up with their friends in the Noise FM for a fall tour, centered around CMJ in New York.
